Filing your income tax return in Catalonia
Updated:
Part of Spanish income tax is regional. If you live in Catalonia, part of your return is calculated with the rates and deductions approved by the Generalitat. You still file with the Spanish tax agency, but the draft does not always include every deduction.
Catalan deductions that are often missed
All of them have requirements and limits that change over time. We check them in every return:
- Rent of your main home, for certain groups (young people, unemployed people, people with disabilities or widowed people) with limited income
- Birth or adoption of a child
- Donations to organisations promoting the Catalan language or research
- Investment in shares of newly created companies
- Interest on loans for master’s or doctoral studies
- Renovation of your main home
Other taxes handled by the Generalitat
The Catalan Tax Agency manages inheritance and gift tax and property transfer tax, among others. If you have received an inheritance or a gift, or bought a second-hand home, we can help with those too.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I file my income tax return if I live in Catalonia?
With the Spanish tax agency, as in the rest of Spain. The regional part is calculated in the same return.
Can I claim deductions I missed in previous years?
Yes. Returns from the last four years can be corrected to recover any overpaid tax.
